From a distance, they might have appeared to be ordinary sequin-embellished gowns. But upon closer inspection of Hussein Chalayan’s silk dresses for his fall collection, it was apparent why audiences are accustomed to expect the unexpected from the Cypriot designer.
Patterns of fake acrylic nails in shades of red, pink, black and white were sewn to the dresses, taking nail art to a whole new level.
"I wanted to make it even more bodily," Chalayan said, "so the nails I thought were quite fun. You wouldn’t know what they were immediately. The dots of colour are from how they were displayed in a book so I turned that into a pattern."
